As promised, here is the second annual Northwoods on-tour poem conceived and edited in the dark of the tent... for 2010. This one is in sonnet form, written in the Elizabethan style (for what it's worth, tra-la-la)
The St. Croix Joy Ride Some like the thrill of four wheels - gas and go while others, two-wheeled, self-propelling brings joy. And so we meet again, friends, rolling slow - a woodsy loop around the falls of St. Croix. Turn, bikers, turn your wheels and feel the breeze, scented with the tang of pine, Balsam Lake and Amery along the way - a valley of trees, and bellies full of pie and rhubarb cake. Turtle racers, Turtle Lakers, bonfires, s'mores at Rice Lake, with pink sky turning to red. You said Spooner would gladly open doors and Siren, your sweet song, filled out heads. So spinning wheels chatter with the road way on our short, precious Northwoods get away --Mark Evans 2010 |
